I like to think of art as a way to say everything without actually saying anything. I started to get into art when I was fairly young, but I hadn't completely invested myself into it until 9th grade. I needed an outlet/ coping mechanism to express my feelings without complaining about it to other people. I kept creating art because it worked for me and I enjoyed it. I enjoy presenting my pieces to others and let them interpret the way they want to based on their life experiences and feelings. And that's my goal; to create art for anyone and everyone so they can interpret freely without feeling they need to interpret it the way I interpreted it myself.
I like to make art based on what inspires me. Artist Vincent van Gogh has a tremendous influence in my life as well as Bob Ross, but those are only the artists that inspire me. Musicians also have an influence in my life like Florence Welch (Florence + the Machine), Matty Healy (The 1975), twenty one pilots, Beyoncé, Of Monsters and Men, and Garrett Borns. These people not only inspire me with their art/music to make the art I do, but it's made me the person I am today and I cannot be more grateful for that opportunity.
Van Gogh's style has effected the way I paint completely. He tended to paint very thick on the canvas and I like the way that looks, so I took up his technique although I don't like to paint as much as I like to draw. And since I wasn't taught how to draw as much as painting, I taught myself how to draw and I found my own style that I like. When I'm painting, I prefer to use oil paints instead of acrylic because they tend to look and work better for me. When I'm drawing I like to use pencil or india ink pens on handmade paper. When figuring out what to draw, it usually depends on my mood or what music I'm listening to. When I decide on what to draw, I start with a rough outline and slowly start to add detail. I do the same when I paint something; I add an outline and start painting. When I'm working with just india ink pens and not pencil, I get right to the detail instead of making a rough outline first. I also find when I'm working with pen that I tend to work more carefully and more slowly, which I like because I make better pieces that way.
I base most of my current pieces on life experiences, music, Indian culture, and things that just randomly come to mind. I have so many ideas at once that I have to write all of them down to keep track or I'll forget. Most of my drawings consist of hands or skulls because that's what is aesthetic pleasing to me, along with a lot of lines, detail, and value. I noticed that I don't usually use a lot of color, probably mostly because I like having most of my pieces black and white with splashes of color. The rest of my pieces are usually sketches of the people that inspire me that I mentioned above. More recently I've started to experiment with creating more realistic paintings and drawings. I had given up trying to do this before because I just couldn't make it look right, but I realized that with practice and patience I could create anything I want to.
